导师是约翰霍普金斯大学SAIS能源、资源和环境讲席终身正教授。他还是可持续能源硕士（MASE）项目主任和可持续能源政策倡议（ISEP）研究中心创始主任。2009年，他获得密歇根大学政治学博士学位，随后在哥伦比亚大学执教了八年。导师著有6本知名著作，并撰写了超过200篇有关环境政治、能源政策和全球治理的学术文章，谷歌学术因子i10指数高达170！他教授以行动为导向的能源和环境政策课程，以使下一代全球领导人具备深厚的知识、先进的分析技能以及对转型社会变革的热情。作为世界顶级能源环境政策专家之一，导师经常为政府、国际组织和私营部门提供能源和环境方面的建议。作为ISEP的创始人和主任，Johannes负责该计划的愿景、战略和总体管理。他在ISEP下的工作提供了务实而有效的方法，以最低的环境影响为世界人民提供负担得起的丰富能源。
Dr. Johannes is the Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Professor of Energy, Resources and Environment at Johns Hopkins SAIS. He is also the Director of the Master of Arts in Sustainable Energy (MASE) degree and the Founding Director of the Initiative for Sustainable Energy Policy (ISEP). He received his PhD in Political Science from the University of Michigan in 2009 and spent the next eight years at Columbia University.
Dr. Johannes is the award-winning author of six books and over two hundred refereed articles on environmental politics, energy policy, and global governance. He teaches action-oriented classes on energy and environmental policy to equip the next generation of global leaders with deep knowledge, advanced analytical skills — and a passion for transformational social change. As one of the world’s top energy policy experts, Johannes frequently advises governments, international organizations, and the private sector on energy and environment.
As the Founding Director of ISEP, Johannes is responsible for the vision, strategy, and general management of the initiative. His work under ISEP offers pragmatic but effective approaches to providing the world’s population with affordable and abundant energy at minimal environmental impact. In his spare time, Johannes reads biographies and tries to improve his Hindi.

项目背景
大数据无处不在，大数据应用于各个行业，包括金融、汽车、餐饮、电信、能源、体能和娱乐等在内的社会各行各业都已经融入了大数据的印记。比如最基本的销售和产品推荐，根据客户信息、客户交易历史、客户购买过程的行为轨迹等客户行为数据，以及同一商品其他访问或成交客户的客户行为数据，进行客户行为的相似性分析，为客户推荐产品，包括浏览这一产品的客户还浏览了哪些产品、购买这一产品的客户还购买了哪些产品、预测客户还喜欢哪些产品等。产品推荐是Amazon的发明，它为Amazon等电子商务公司赢得了近1/3的新增商品交易。又或者在经济学中如何做产品定价，传统的定价策略已经无法应对快速多变的市场，产品定价的合理性需要进行数据试验和分析，主要研究客户对产品定价的敏感度，将客户按照敏感度进行分类，测量不同价格敏感度的客户群对产品价格变化的直接反应和容忍度。通过这些数据试验，为产品定价提供决策参考。

在当今很多社会发展和经济政治研究中，数据分析和可视化是其中最有价值的技能。在本课程中,我们将使用R统计编程语言来分析和可视化跨国数据,以了解全球发展和国际经济的模式。本课程向学生展示如何编写R代码来准备、操作、描述和可视化经济和发展中的大型数据集。学生还将制作一份最终报告,分析全球数百个国家基本社会经济变量变化的研究。（教授和TF将在课程中指导学生使用R语言并编写代码，学生需要在课前具备简单的编程基础即可）
Data analytics and visualization are some of the most valuable skills in today’s world economy. In this course, we use the R statistical programming language to analyze and visualize cross-national data to understand patterns of development economics across the world. The course shows students how to write R code to prepare, manipulate, describe, and visualize large data sets from economics and development. Students also produce a final report that analyzes patterns of change in essential socio-economic variables at the global level across hundreds of countries.
